John Charles May, 81, of Marion, Kentucky, died peacefully at home on May 23, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was born on October 1, 1944, to James Truman and Annabel Vincent May.
John earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Western Kentucky University. He began his career in education before returning to farm his family's land in Western Kentucky, working as a true steward of the land. He also served three terms as Judge Executive of Crittenden County from 1985 to 1997.
John loved being on the water, particularly the Ohio River, and water skied until his late 70s. His passion for boating was highlighted by a solo boat trip from Kentucky all the way to the Florida Keys. He also had many creative passions, including woodworking, photography, homemade winemaking, yoga, and guitar.
He was preceded in death by his brother, JT May.
John is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jerilyn May, his children, Eric May (Julie) of Louisville, KY, Jill Rogier (Steve) of Palm Harbor, FL, Jacob May (Ashlee) of Marion, KY, and Eric Shewcraft of Paducah, KY; five grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
Celebration of Life Service for John May will be held Saturday, May 30,2026 between the hours of 11 AM - 2 PM at FOHS Hall in Marion, KY.
